Global Game Jam 2022 - Unusual Race

For this Global Game Jam, we created Unusual Race!!

In this game, Humanity's greatest problems will finally be decided... Pizza with or without pineapple. Sporting vs Benfica. Grab that one friend who you are always butting heads with, pick your side, and resolve these conflicts once and for all. Jump and slide over obstacles, pick up power-ups to slow down your opponent. Unusual Race is a two-player local versus game. The objective? Make your opponent stay behind, the first one to throw the other out of the field of view wins.

The theme for this year was "Duality" and our approach was in a "joke" way. The dualities in this game are focused on "ridiculous" opinions that people have on different subjects, for example, people that prefer pepperoni on their pizza and others prefer pineapple. You get the idea... And these 2 different opinions will fight on a race!

How the game works is that both players have to run to the right side and try to outrun their opponent. The game focus on the player in front and if the other player leaves the screen, that player loses.

Random platforms spawn out of the screen and the players have to do some platforming to get through them. The players can also jump and slide to help them getting through the platforms.

The game also have power ups, which the players can use to make the life of their opponents harder. The power ups are:
- Rolling Ball, which pushes the player back if he doesnt dodge it;
- Slowing Field, which slows the player and prevents him from jumping;
- Missile, which follows the target and slows him on impact;
- Wall, which spawns a big wall in front of the player;
- Raining, where some liquids drop on top of the player and slows him on impact.

The power ups can be stored and used whenever the player feels like.
